Bay Area Mid-Century Residence -- The rear yard of this classic mid-century modern home was completely remodeled to create an outdoor area for entertaining that takes advantage of views to the surrounding East Bay hills. A simple colored concrete seat wall dramatizes the edge of the slope, while sand finish concrete paving complements the clean simple lines of the house. Translucent Polycarbon panels set in minimal steel frames shelter the outdoor spa and BBQ without competing with the house architecture. A mature Japanese maple was preserved, while the surrounding lawn was converted to drought tolerant meadow surrounded by Mediterranean plantings.
